MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Peninsula Breakfast Club is to support those businesses that serve the Peninsula communities through referrals to, and personal use of, member businesses.

VISION STATEMENT

To have a complete collection of businesses that provide exceptional service.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

1.       We promote local businesses by utilizing, whenever possible, club member businesses, encouraging local businesses to join the group,

and providing referrals (leads) to member businesses.

2.       We deliberately maintain a minimal set of rules and regulations.  We expect that members will conduct themselves in a responsible, business-like  fashion with regard to the rules and regulations that we do have.

3.       Our members conduct business in a professional manner--providing reliable, responsive and quality service at a fair market price.

4.       We foster communication among members.  This is especially true in situations in which (1) a member is experiencing a challenge in abiding by the rules and regulations of the Club; or (2) a member has a complaint about service provided by another member.

5.       We share, among members, information and expertise that contribute to the success of member businesses.

BRIEF HISTORY

The Peninsula Breakfast Club was established in 1992 by Mark Winkler, with the assistance of Ron Hall.  Original members, including Fred Wanke and Bob Ortega, met in the back room of the Little Chef Restaurant in Ocean Beach .  The Club met at the Southwestern Yacht club from 1996 to 2001, after which it moved to its current meeting place.

MEETINGS

Attendance at meetings is tantamount to the success of the Club.  Simply by being there at regular meetings allows scheduling of services among members as well as recognition of your business and the services you can provide, which allows other members to properly send leads your way.  Should a time conflict arise preventing you from attending more than three meetings per quarter, please contact the President to discuss possible solutions.

Standing meetings: First and third Thursday each month, 7:00 am at a location in the Point Loma area.

A typical standing meeting goes like this:

7:00-7:10:    Social Time. Mingle and help yourself to breakfast: this is a great opportunity to introduce yourself to other members, ask questions about other member's services, and book appointments.  Please be sure to look for guests and new members and make them feel at home.  The hallmark of this Club is its congenial atmosphere.

7:10-7:15     Come to Order.  The President brings the meeting to order with the reading of the Mission Statement and guest introductions. (If you have brought a guest, the President will ask you to introduce your guest, at which time the guest can take a moment to describe his/her business.)

7:15-7:25     Reports from Officers.  All officers give updates.  The Membership Officer will read applications from potential members after which the Club votes to invite those members into the Club.

7:25-7:35     1st 10 min. Speaker (introduced by Vice President)

Each club member has an opportunity during the calendar year to present their business to the group.

This is our chance to learn about each other’s businesses in more detail.

7:35-7:50     Member introductions, announcements, Sunshine Moments. After guests have been introduced, members will each have thirty seconds to introduce themselves and their business. Members may offer "special sunshine moments" (testimonials) about recent encounters with other member businesses.  Members can present special announcements about things happening in the community. This is also a time to fill out lead slips for services you have used or referrals you have made since the last meeting.

7:50-8:00     2nd 10 min Speaker (introduced by Vice President)

8:00             Raffle.

8:05             Adjournment.  Meeting is adjourned with reminders of next meeting.

8:15-8:30     Board meeting, as needed.

Other meetings:

·        "Fifth Thursday Evening Social:" Three months out of each calendar year contain five Thursdays.  On the evening of each of these Thursdays, the Club may have a social event, which is usually a party hosted by a club member.

·        "Annual Holiday Party:" Takes place on the evening of the third Thursday in December.  There is no morning meeting this day.

DUES

·        Initial payment is $115 (one quarter's dues plus a $25 registration fee).

·        Dues are $90 per quarter payable at the first meeting of each quarter (i.e., January April, July, October).

     -  A second representative from the same company is $75 additional per quarter, which covers only the cost of breakfast.

     -  A second business from the same member is $10 additional per quarter, which includes all advertising benefits of Club membership.  Please note that additional businesses from the same member will be free of conflict from other member's   businesses.

·        Payment policy: It is expected that dues will be paid on time, either at the first meeting of each quarter or in advance by mail to the above address.  Members who do not remit dues by the second meeting of the quarter will be assessed a $10 late fee and excluded from the next printing of the brochure.  If dues are not paid by the fourth regular meeting in the quarter, the member may be asked to resign from the Club.

·        Notification: Notification of dues due will be made during regular meetings. An invoice will be mailed to those members who fail to pay by the fourth meeting of the quarter.  Non-paying members will be contacted by telephone and asked to pay or resign.

·        Pre-payment: Dues may be pre-paid for more than one quarter.  Members who choose to pay one year in advance (payment due in January) will receive a 10% discount on the annual fee.

·        Make checks payable to "The Peninsula Breakfast Club."

·        Should you have a challenge with payment of dues, please contact the Club's President.

 LEADS

The point of this Club is to promote each other's business through personal use and referrals of potential customers. Thus, we define a "lead" as either a referral of a potential customer or an occasion in which a Club member uses another club member's products or services.  In the case of the latter definition, a "lead" is a single service or purchase (i.e., each fill-up at the Club's gas station or a visit to the Club's retail store is one lead).  As we go through our normal workday, we come into contact with dozens of people.  Keep your ears open for "needs" that can be filled by a Club member's business.  Please keep extra Club brochures at home, office, and in your car to hand out to potential leads.  Document your leads with "lead slips" provided at each regular meeting.

We encourage and tally leads but do not maintain lead quotas, nor do we penalize in any way those members who produce fewer leads.

 SPEAKING

There are two 10 minute speaking slots available each meeting. This is your opportunity to showcase your business.  Tell us about yourself and how you came to your current business.  Tell us all the ways that you can serve us so that we can take full advantage of your business as well as provide you with good leads.  Share some wisdom from your experiences that may assist us in conducting our own businesses.  The Club's Calls Officer maintains a list of speakers--please sign up.

New members are encouraged to be worked into the schedule in the first quarter of   joining.  Each speaker is asked to provide a gift certificate, or gift, of at least $25.00 value.

 GUESTS

Members are encouraged to invite potential new members.  The hosting member is expected to introduce his or her guest and make sure the Membership Officer receives the guest's business card/mailing address.  The Membership Officer should supply a membership packet to the potential new member.  Non-business guests are welcome to attend meetings; however, the host member must reimburse the Club Treasurer $12.00 for each breakfast purchased or event attended.

 RAFFLE

A raffle will be held each meeting for one or two separate gifts.  Each member will receive one raffle ticket per lead given during that meeting and since the last meeting.  Each member will donate one gift per year for the lead raffle.  The gift value will be at least $25, either a product or gift certificate for a product or service.  If a gift value does not make sense for a particular business type, it is suggested that the member purchase a gift from another Club member or another local business.  Club gift certificates are also available from the Treasurer.

 BROCHURE

·        Membership includes a listing in the Club's brochure.

·        The brochure is revised the last week of January and July.

·        Copies of the brochure are available at each meeting.  Large quantities (e.g., more than a dozen) are available from Susan James as James Gang Printing.

·        Please pass out brochures to your neighbors, customers, and business contacts.  Please also display brochures at your place of business and include in your mailings, if possible.

·        To be included in each printing of the brochure, dues must be paid on time.

·        For changes to a listing, please see the Club Secretary.

REWARD STRUCTURE

Annual rewards:  A $50.00 Club Gift Certificate is given at the annual Holiday Party for each of the following categories:  "most leads from one member,"  "most new members invited and signed-up by a single member."  Additional prizes are awarded for special occasions and events at the discretion of the Board, i.e. Halloween party, etc…

PENINSULA BREAKFAST CLUB GIFT CERTIFICATES

PBC Gift Certificates can be redeemed at any member business. Only original certificates signed by the Club's Treasurer are valid.  PBC Gift Certificates are typically used for raffle prizes and performance rewards within the Club, and can be purchased by any Club member.

NEW MEMBERS: HOW TO APPLY

1.       After initial invitation by a current member, attend two consecutive regular          meetings.  There is no charge for this.

2.       Pick up an application during the first meeting and return the completed application at the second meeting.

3.       Skip the next meeting, during which the application will be read and put to a vote of the membership.

4.       Shortly after the skipped meeting, you will be notified by telephone as to   whether or not your application had been accepted.

5.       If accepted, please attend the next regular meeting.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

·        Membership: Membership is by invitation only and must be approved by the Club members.

·        Conflicts of Interest: There are to be no conflicts of interest between member businesses, unless agreed to by the involved members.  If a guest business poses a potential conflict, the current member will meet briefly and discuss it with the Board following the meeting.

·        Dues: Failure to pay dues by second meeting of the quarter will result in exclusion from the next printing of the Club's brochure.  Members who attend but fail to pay dues beyond the second meeting of the quarter will be asked to pay back dues or resign from the Club.

·        Attendance: A member who is unable to attend at least one meeting per month will be placed "on probation" for the next quarter.  If attendance continues to be inadequate, the member will be asked to resign.  A member who fails to both pay dues and attend meetings for one quarter will be required to re-apply and re-register into the Club.  Each member may request one pre-paid leave of absence (up to three months) per year.

·        Leaving the Club:  If a member chooses to resign from the club, they must notify the President or Membership Chairperson.  There is no refunding of paid dues.

 REGISTERING COMPLANTS

Should you have a complaint about service received from another Club member, first attempt to resolve the issue with that member.  If the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction, or you experience consistent service difficulty with that member, please privately discuss the matter with the President.  Should you have a question, comment, suggestion, or complaint about some aspect of the Club or its operation, please first contact the appropriate Board member.  If you are not satisfied with the response, then privately contact the President.
